Entrepreneurship in South West Wales

NEO has just released the latest regional report on entrepreneurship, this time covering the South West of Wales.

It emphasises the importance of female entrepreneurship within this part of Wales, and highlights the challenges in supporting such businesses, especially within rural areas.

Indeed, with start-up programmes being cut back, there needs to be a serious reassessment of support for new firms, especially as the 'rural premium' of delivering such services across a wide area can be a major issue.

There is no real support for women entrepreneurs in Wales - look at what England is offering look at the work people like the women into business network in Merseyside is doing with Ellie Kerr at its head
They are offering office space for hot desking with so many amenities at £6 a week.
Every RDA in England has a women’s enterprise programme and a host of advisors and support recognising the very different way women go about business – what do we have in Wales – nothing a few lame projects going in to convergence; no support or knowledge from DET.
And Chwarae Teg, attempting to look as if they know how to support women in business – I wonder how many there have actually run a business.
The whole support system is a joke – regeneration. - needs wealth creation and the economy needs more women economically active in creating and running their own business –especially in rural areas.
When will they ever learn oh when will they ever learn

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE CREATIVE CLASSES

GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP MONITOR WALES 2022

How entrepreneurial is Wales? That is the question that the latest Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) attempts to answer in its latest report which investigates those involved in early-stage entrepreneurship i.e. starting and managing a new business.  This year’s results show that the rate of total early-stage entrepreneurship (TEA) in Wales in 2021 was 10.3% as compared to 11.5% for the UK. This is significantly higher than the previous year (6.5%) and means that around 192,000 adults aged between 18 and 64 are involved in entrepreneurial activity in Wales.  Nearly three quarters are in the very early stages of starting a business and the rest involved in managing a new business aged between 4 and 42 months old.  This is an important finding as not only is the overall rate of entrepreneurial activity in Wales increasing but this is largely accounted for by those starting a business.
