Hoover

On Tuesday, Valleys Mam commented on this blog as well as her own that she had heard rumours about Hoover shedding jobs in Merthyr. Huw Lewis also commented on this issue earlier today.

Now it seems that she was right and that, according to the Western Mail tomorrow, the business is ready to shed hundreds of jobs.

An absolute tragedy and one can only guess which company is next.

Update: It would seem that the answer is Corus.

we need Huw Lewis to do a bit more than be concerned.

Merthyr can't sustain 500 joblosses, but what can WAG or its agencies do to help in one of the poorest parts of Wales to soften the blow to the local economy.

and why the hell didn't WAG now about this? Question needs to be asked and answered soon.

isn't this the economy and cheap labour in other countries though? why blame the WAG? do you think we should give it free business rates, subsidise as much as you can in law and provide free popcorn? If so, what about the corner garage, they're struggling too, shall we do the same for these?

so who pays?

Hoover are an enigma, i thought they'd have left our shores a long while ago with the rest of the globals

WAG have been working with Hoover on this and Huw's statement this morning was described by Hoover as 'unhelpful.'
In other words, he couldn't bring himself to speak to IWJ about the issue because of his political blinkers and instead went in guns blazing, being anything but helpful.

Thanks for the party political broadcast from Plaid Cymru. The media coverage says that Lewis raised this with the First Minister last week. Seems like he's gone through the right processes to me and is trying to get to the bottom of this. Bit sad that you'd try to make a party political point on something liek this.

I am grateful that Huw lewis did go in guns blazing , he is looking after his patch.IWJ is only concerned if it going to affect his vote. He hasnt got the idea yet that all Wales is his concern, the Valleys are dying ,thank God some like Huw lewis are rting to keep them alive.

I cannot believe that you actually see Huw Lewis as such an individual. I am now convinced that you are either Huw himself or his wife. No one else could really believe that, could they?

VM is not Huw or Lynne Neagle, I can assure you and she has the best interests of Merthyr in mind. Surely, politics apart, the AM for the area should be raising these issues directly with the Assembly Government.
